“Understanding & Working with the NHS” is a one-day module, that focuses on the purchaser, prescriber and company relationship and the specific priorities of the purchaser audience.

- The role of Policy and Directives
- Roles, responsibilities and accountabilities within the NHS
- Incentives and QOF
- The role of Alternative Service Providers
- Integrated care, the process of Service Redesign and its implications
- Points of influence and NHS working at a local level
Core competencies
- Understand the NHS structure in England, and the variations across the UK and also the interrelationships within this structure
- Understand the different roles of the relevant Arms Length Bodies (ALB’s) and their relevance to pharmaceutical marketing
- Understand what the “drivers of change” are in the NHS
- Have an understanding of what the implications are for a patient-led NHS
- Understand the implications of recent initiatives including Practice-Based Commissioning through to Payment by Results
- Understand the positive and negative aspects of the GMS contracts and the specified QOFs
- Be able to produce practical actionable strategies for engaging the new customer base within the NHS
Learning outcomes
It would be expected that after attendance at the “Understanding & Working with the NHS” Module delegates would be able to understand the structure and dynamics of the NHS and the implications for pharmaceutical marketing. They would also be able to produce actionable strategies for engaging with the new customer base within the NHS.
